Embracing my second chance at life, my priorities naturally shifted to focus even more closely on my family, specifically, my children and grandchildren. I created each image in this panel with them in mind. They are the stories I want to tell them, the values I want to impart to them and my tributes to the Masters connected with them.
Catalyst – Understanding The Significance
The first image started the series which precipitated David’s journey and stoked his desire through a chain of events. Let’s look at one of the definitions of the word “catalyst”.
Catalyst -A person or thing that precipitates an event or causes change.
It started because David realized his daughters were beginning to lose some of their youthful appearances, and he wanted to create a special portrait of the three of them to show the special bond they share as sisters. While he had taken many photos of them over the years, something inside him desired to create something beyond his standard work.
As his daughter Sara was getting married in England, it presented a natural opportunity. Inspired by her love for Jane Austen, he conceived a simple concept using old parasols and a Pride & Prejudice book. Little did he know that this marker in their lives represents the last photo he ever took of his daughter Elayne. Shortly after returning home, David experienced an accident related stroke. Experiencing so many significant life events in rapid successions galvanized his desire to leave a visual legacy. The results of that work show the maturation of an artist, his studies and his ability to communicate through the art of photography.
